Blurbtacular!

Ladies and Gentlemen, I am honored to share the first ever blurb for Riding with Larry Resnick, graciously penned by the very talented Kristy Kiernan, author of Catching Genius:

"Jessica Riley's Riding With Larry Resnick is a brilliant and hilarious debut. With the knowing humor of Emily Giffin and the poignant vulnerability of Lolly Winston, Riley proves herself a huge new talent who will break your heart even while you're laughing out loud. If I ever need a funny bone transplant, I want Jess Riley's."

Kristy? Thank you from the bottom of my once-almost-gave-up-writing-for-good heart. The check’s in the mail. Kidding! It’s actually a Candygram from Armando and His Magic Wando.

Alright, but that’s not what we’re all here for, is it? We’re here for the goods. The promised pixilated perfection. Photographic evidence that I’m not just blowing smoke up your hineys that my nephew is the most adorable little dude since George Burns.

I know, George Burns…is she smoking crack? No, she’s just remembering that she watched Oh God! on the oldies movie channel two weeks ago.

Look at that face! And that pudgy, ready-to-crush-you arm—he’s definitely related to me, as my upper arm has a part-time gig demolishing condemned buildings. (This was actually the camera angle. His arms are really tiny and tender. I’m sure this is exactly how he’ll want everyone to describe them when he’s 16, too.)

Since I’m so thrilled with my first-ever blurb, I decided to write a blurb too, for my new nephew. I call him Corby:

"Madeline M’s debut project sparkles with life! I was smitten by Corby from the beginning, and then he got the hiccups. Could there be anything more swoon-inducing? Watch out preemie girls—this one will break your hearts someday. With her sense of humor and seemingly effortless grace, Madeline is a natural-born parent. I can’t wait for the sequels from this new mom to watch."

--Jess Riley, Godmother Who Will Spoil the Kid Rotten

This baby is a fun-sized nugget of cuteness.

I’m over at the Debs this Friday. Stop by and say "howdy." If you’re like, bored at work or something. I’m just sayin’.

  1. Corby is as good as advertised -- i.e. "adorable."

And then there's the blurb from sheer genius Kristy! It doesn't get much better, Jess...enjoy.

Have I mentioned lately how much I'm looking forward to your book?

Your nephew is darling, and you are one of the most excited aunts I've ever known. I want to pinch his cheeks and yours.

(The ones on your face, I mean.)

  6. I wish you had audio from how I reacted to this post. First, to be in the same league as Emily (my Best Writer Friend in the world, even though she hasn't emailed me back since she had her daughter Harriet!), and then Lolly!

And the part about wanting a funny bone transplant!!! WOW! Genius is catching! (Couldn't resist)...

Then I scroll down and O M G to the nth degree! (Sounds like a rap song.. I think I might have to pen more words to it)...

That 'nugget of cuteness!' I am so jealous!

And what a perfect baby blurb... hey, wouldn't THAT be a great part time gig--penning baby blurbs for moms to include in their announcements... (hey it's how ideas are sparked)...

Anyway, if you want a Manic Mom review, I'd be happy.... ah, never mind... you don't! : )

  7. He is so precious! I love your blurb about him! Manic has a great idea there - penning baby blurbs. You did a great job of it!

And congrats on the blurb about your book, too! I'm so excited for you!

  8. What an excellent book blurb! I am totally looking forward to reading it when it comes out. :)

Also, my ovaries are fairly shrieking since I looked at the nugget o'cuteness that is your nephew. Unlike the Tooth Fairy and Santa, I guess biological clocks really DO exist.

  9. I can't wait to read your book. I want to do a book challenge and include it...Why do I have to wait until next summer? That's just not right. Sigh.

OMG, what a CUTE little nephew! I might pass out if my sister weren't at this very moment pregnant and offering to give me a new nephew any DAY now. :)

  10. The baby is ADORABLE! Seriously. What a doll. You'd better spoil him. That's your job. And you don't have to tell your sister that you're doing it. That's your prerogative.

And congrats on the blurb - it's awesome! I've read Emily Giffin and Lolly Winston and although they're great, I have no doubt that you'll have a huge fan base and outstanding success. I'm very confident and can't wait for the book!!!

    Hi again from Brew City!

Congrats on your blurb! I'm getting very excited for your book.

And yes, cute boy, but like Beck, I cannot look too long, for I will be tempted. Must. not. have. third. child.

  18. Super cute kid! I can see why you're burstin with pride.

So is this Debs place a new gig for you? Do I need to dress up to visit?

  19. Jess, when I read your stuff, I'm always smiling ear-to-ear.

That little boy is infecting you...keep your checkbook handy :o) I love showering gifts on babies and I don't even mind when they projectile vomit down my back. I'm so happy for you!

I visited The Debutante Ball and laughed out loud at the first line on your bio, "Wisconsin native Jess Riley spent much of her childhood sitting at her desk during lunch hour for lying and/or passing notes during class, both of which qualified her for a possible future as a novelist." I'm not surprised!!!!

Your view is awesome. I just can't wait to put my hands on your book.

Now that's what I call a forearm. Is that his Dad with the giant head too?

You should have a blurb-of-the day on your site.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Thanks everybody for the kind words! That's actually Corby's uncle Jason in the last photo. But his head does look a little large, doesn't it?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think I love him, Jess Riley. Does he have a date for the prom?

Man, that's a great blurb! Congratulations and I can't wait to read the book.

Also the nephew is super, super cute. He doesn't have that potato-ey look about him that so many newborns have. Isn't watching a delivery the most awe inspiring thing ever?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Congrats on the blurb! (Isn't that a sound your nephew makes?)

  26. Awesome blurb!! I want your funny bone too!

    Cutest baby ever!!!
