Think of These Nuggets as Bits on a Kabob

Tonight I checked my voicemail messages, and the second message went something like this: "Hello, can I please speak to Miss Rileeee.....oh." *error discovered, fade out, and CLICK* I love when telemarketers punk themselves.

You know what always creeped me out? The way Daniel Tiger wore a small gold wristwatch on Mister Rogers Neighborhood. A tiger has no business wearing a wristwatch. Toe rings, either.

I'm on the home stretch of my next novel--in the zone again, and I'm loving it. So this is just fair warning to anyone I will be socializing with in the next month and a half. I have a pen, I have scraps of paper in my purse, and if you say anything remotely amusing, poignant, or interesting in the next few weeks, I'll probably be writing it down to put in the book.
~~~
It's been an off year for monarch ranching. We've released as many as 15 so far, but there have been two misfires...one chrysalis that did nothing, and another poor little dude who malfunctioned during the precarious transformation between caterpillar and chrysalis. It's amazing to me that I don't have more two-headed butterflies or insect tongues that don't roll out or what have you, given how complex and speedy the process is.
~~~
Daisy escaped for the first time tonight, and nearly got into a dog fight on the corner. Luckily, we got her under control and quickly carried her back in the house. She is now grounded from use of the car for three weeks. I'd take her cell phone away too, but that just seems a little extreme.

Spaghett!

    I am so very glad I'm not the only one who thinks in bits and pieces at times -- and posts that way too!

    Glad you found Daisy all right--and good luck on the home stretch of that book.
    Daniel Tiger creeped me out with his neediness and inability to function without help. I never gave his jewelry much thought, but now that you mention it...

  3. You have reminded me of my butterfly story.

    PTA President I was for the state. Planning a Butterfly Release for Earth Day. We buy 700 Chrysalis', babysit them through the weekends and finally the big day arrives. We have full news coverage, 700 elementary school kids each carrying there own little cup out to the field. We get them all sitting down in perfect rows with an aisle down the middle. Our little "Butterfly" girl (with wings and wand) runs down the aisle to music proclaiming "release the butterflys" Now, we have imagined this beautiful realease of 700 butterflys soaring up to the treetops and beyond. But no, that's not what happened. The kids opened the cups and the butterflys fly out about an inch, sit on the cup and some went straight to the ground or flew close to the kids, who then started clapping and smashing them in their hands while we (the PTA leaders) are running around screaming at them "NO, NO, Stop it, Stop it! All caught on film for Earth Day! Good Times!

  4. If Daisy can have a cell phone, then I think it's only fair for Daniel Tiger to wear a watch, don't you?

  5. Good point, Monnik! Maybe it has more to do with my aversion to animals in jewelry, though.

    (Peace, your story cracked me up.)

  7. Hey lady - been meaning to drop by and tell you...

    As soon as it's by turn to pick the next book for my book club, Driving Sideways is IT. I was telling a friend this recently (who is part of an online discussion group) and she said everyone in her group has been raving about it!

  8. Maybe Daniel Tiger had a watch so it could be taken away when he'd wander off and get in fights with other neighborhood animals?

    How do you discipline the monarchs?

  9. I'm excited for your next book. I wish I could say something funny so I could be in it. But that would be kind of like waving at the camera from behind the speaker, or yelling out in a golf game so you can go home and listen to yourself yell on your Tivo. Wouldn't it? Heh.

    Seriously. I can't wait for another one of your great books. Keep 'em coming!

    You have indicated that you don't like souvenir versions of Monopoly games - so just had to tell you that - yup - I've just ordered the Beatles version of Monopoly!! Yay!

  11. The only thing stranger than Daniel Tiger wearing a watch is the cat that prefaced every sentence with "Meow, Meow...." Did I ever mention that I had dinner with Mr. Rogers once? True story.

    Oh and be careful what you write about. Did you hear about this news nugget?: http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=72228 .

    Great to ready your stuff again. I completely missed you in town once again, but I still pimp your book all the time.

    Can't wait to read the next one!

  12. Maybe your dog needs a watch. And then when other dogs start messing with her, she can be all "What time is it? OH, that's right: TIME TO KICK SOME BUTT."
    Or maybe that would just be trouble making. I'm not sure.

  13. Write more. Write faster. I'm waiting.

    Bad Daisy. I hate when they worry you.

    Poor Daisy. Next time she should act more apologetic and maybe she won't be grounded quite so long. Can she still use the telephone and watch TV, or did you take those privileges away, too?
